Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge
An ultrasonic thickness gauge is a non-destructive testing (NDT) instrument used to measure the thickness of materials. It operates on the principle of ultrasonic wave propagation, where high-frequency sound waves are transmitted through a material. The portable gauge measures the time it takes for the sound waves to travel through the material and return to the device.
By providing reliable, real-time measurements, ultrasonic thickness gages are indispensable in helping Singapore maintain high standards of safety, efficiency, and regulatory compliance in all industries.
Ultrasonic Thickness Measuring Principle
The digital ultrasonic thickness gauge determines the thickness of a part or structure by accurately measuring the time required for a short ultrasonic pulse generated by a transducer to travel through the thickness of the workpiece, and the sound waves are coupled into the test material and travel through it until they encounter a back wall or other boundaries. The reflections then travel back to the transducer, which converts the sound energy back into electrical energy. In essence, the gauge listens for the echo from the opposite side. Typically this time interval is only a few millionths of a second. These gauges programmed with the speed of sound in the test material, from which it can then calculate thickness using the simple mathematical relationship. The thickness gauge offered in Singapore comes as a portable hand-held instrument with a carrying case.

TG 22 Ultrasonic Wall Thickness Gauge
The model TG22 is a digital thickness gauge which based on the ultrasonic measurement principle. The instrument is capable of measuring the thickness with various materials, such as metal, plastic, ceramic, glass and many other materials which are ultrasonic conductive.
With the alternative mode, it can measure the velocity of all kinds of materials to get the respective material identical sound velocity. Compared with the traditional measurement methods, the advantage of an ultrasonic thickness gauge is exposed to one side of the workpiece to complete the measurement without affecting any process under operation. The instrument is as easy to use with just applying the acoustic coupling compound to the probe surface, which then is placed firmly on the workpiece.
The wall thickness displayed can be stored directly in the transmitter for later data-logged retrieval. Its’ unique non-destructive testing performance provides the perfect solution for the thickness testing of closed pipes, containers, pressure vessels, etc. It is widely used for petroleum, chemical, metallurgy, shipbuilding, aviation, aerospace, and other industry because of quality control, production, and inspection purposes.

What is an Ultrasonic Thickness Gage?
These types of thickness gauges often called thickness meters are electronic devices used to take thickness measurements non-destructively on solid materials, machinery parts, tanks, sheet metal, plastics, glass, or even coatings in a range of situations. Unlike the traditional thickness meter which uses a mechanical claw to measure thickness, the user can very easily measure the thickness of a solid substrate by a simply applying acoustic couplant to the thickness probe head and view instantaneous readings for thickness in imperial or metric units.
Types of Gauges
- Coating Thickness Gauge
- Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge
- Mini Thickness Gauge
- Thickness Meter
Meter Gage options:
Since thickness measurements require a different measurement resolutions(according to the requirement), our organization has not only supplied ultrasonic thickness meters but also a large selection of different thickness probes and ultrasonic transducers to suit individual needs. Some of the more common thickness measurements might only require measurement of one material but in the case of coatings, we have options to measure through coatings.
Thickness Sensor Features:
- Non-destructive testing by ultrasonic sensors
- Highly accurate
- Immediate visual readout of thickness
- No need to access both sides of material to ascertain it's thickness
- User friendly and fast response
